High School football capsules for Oct. 30

The Wharton Tigers exploded for two long touchdowns early in the fourth quarter and rode those scores to a 41-34 win over the Columbia Roughnecks in Columbia Friday night.

With the win, the Tigers are now 2-2 in district and 2-7 overall while Columbia falls to 0-4 in league play and 1-7 for the season. The Tigers will play host to Sweeney this coming Friday in the final game of the regular season. It will be Parents’ Night with the kick set for 7:30 p.m.

The Tigers were up 26-20 going into the fourth on Deshavian Williams third touchdown run of the game, a 15-yard carry with 8:35 go to in the third quarter. But Columbia scored early in the fourth on quarterback Daymond Lewis’ keeper for 26 yards and a touchdown with 10:15 to go in the game. Treylen Johnican added the PAT for a 27-26 edge.

Oilers rough up Deer: The Pearland Oilers improved to 5-1 in District 22-5A after taking care of Deer Park, 27-7 at Clyde Abshire Stadium on Friday.

Pearland dominated the Deer (4-2, 6-3) on both sides of the ball after allowing just a first quarter touchdown.

Junior tailback Dustin Garrison was the go-to guy in the back field as he rumbled for 139 yards on 23 carries and a score.

Fellow junior Trey Anderson was 13-for-16 for 105 passing yards and one touchdown as well.

Deer Park was held to 192 total offensive yards and seven first downs on the night. On the night the Deer runners dropped the ball seven times but recovered all of them.

The Oilers close the season with Dobie at The Rig.

Yellowjackets stun Creek: The Alvin Yellowjackets scored their first District 24-5A win by beating Clear Creek 33-16 at Memorial Stadium Friday night.

The Alvin offense rolled to 475 yards on the night as they rushed the ball 55 times for 332 yards.

Matthew Bass scored twice from the 1 and 11 yard line on the night and Bryce Jackson added a pair of touchdowns for the Yellowjackets.

Dustin Moehling was the other Alvin player to punch it in for the Yellowjackets.

Jackson rushed for 126 yards on 19 carries and Bass had 118 on 18 carries. Meanwhile Moehlig passed for 143 yards on 11 completions.

Alvin improves to 1-5, 2-7 on the year, and Creek drops to 3-3, 4-5 overall.

Brazosport Christian gets big win: The Brazosport Christian Eagles got a big win in TAPPS Division 4, District 4 by beating The Woodlands Christian 36-28 on Friday night at Slade Field.

Brazosport Christian got some big plays from quarterback Danny White, who had long touchdown runs of 85 in the second quarter and the clincher in the fourth of 70 yards.

Another notable was Ricky Jones, who tallied 242 rushing yards on 27 carries. He also scored five touchdowns for the Eagles. Jones and White combined for 355 rushing yards on the night.

The Eagle offense had 22 first downs on the night as Dallas Miles also came up with three receptions for 47 yards in the game. Defensively, Miles led as well.
