Student wins quilt
Published October 28, 2009
SWEENY — The Sweeny Library recently announced the winner of its drawing for a quilt based on the theme of the 2009 summer reading program, “Libraries: Deep in the Heart of Texas.”
The name of Kinsi Cook was drawn from those of all the children who participated in the program at the Sweeny Library.
To encourage a love of reading among local children, eight beautiful quilts were made and provided to each local library by the Plantation Quilting Guild. The guild annually supports the Brazoria County libraries with quilts representing the theme of the Texas state summer reading program.
Monthly guild meetings are 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson. The Community Service Committee of the guild conducts a project workday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Brazoria Library. Visitors are welcome.
Next year’s summer reading program will begin in June, and the theme is “Catch the Reading Express!” All library programs are free and schedules are available at the branches as well as on the Web site http://bcls.lib.tx.us/.
Programs are available for adults, teens and families, as well as children.
For information, contact your local library branch.
