Family out of town as Danbury home burns
Published November 1, 2009
DANBURY — Looking at her, charred, two-story home, Janice Blalock said she’s not sure what she and her family will do.
“Everything we own was in there,” she said as a single tear streamed down her cheek.
Janice and her husband, Paul, were in Waco on Friday visiting their daughter when they received a phone call telling them their house in Danbury was on fire.
They drove back to Danbury to find their home near the intersection of CR 209 and CR 210 in ruins. They paced around the site Saturday afternoon looking at what was left of their home.
“You really don’t believe it at first,” Paul Blalock said.
Firefighters were called to the home right before midnight Friday, Danbury Fire Chief Kyle Webster said. The fire had consumed the home by the time firefighters arrived, he said.
Brazoria County Fire Marshal Al Priselac said the fire likely originated in the home’s living room or kitchen area.
Firefighters from Danbury, Angleton and Liverpool arrived at the scene to battle the blaze, which was put out by about 4 a.m. officials said. The home is a total loss and was insured for about $200,000, Priselac said.
The Blalocks said they recently put the house on the market.
The couple owns a home next door and plans to stay there for the time being, Paul Blalock said.
Arson dogs from the Pasadena Fire Marshal’s office arrived at the home Saturday afternoon to go through the house. Nothing was found to indicate arson, officials said.
“The arson dogs did not hit on anything,” Priselac said. “I don’t feel that it’s intentional.”
The home is not too far from another home off CR 210 that burned down Oct. 23. Two occupants were out of town when that fire started. Officials said they do not believe the fires are related.
“I believe both will be unintentional,” Webster said.
There were no injuries from battling the fire on Saturday morning, Priselac said.
