QUESTION: While driving down the highway I often have wondered how a business goes about getting its logo on one of the highway exit signs. You know, the signs that say “Exit, 1/2 mile” and then have various restaurant or gas station logos featured.
Do businesses pay for placement on those signs?
ANSWER: Your reader has asked about logo signs, which pertain to food, gas, lodging and pharmacy advertising on the controlled access freeways. This program has been around for several years, and it provides a good way to offer information on travel-oriented services along our corridors in a uniform way that does not contribute to roadside sign clutter. This contributes to improving our highway aesthetics yet still gives needed traveler information.
The current contract is administered by Lonestar Logos. Businesses pay to advertise on these signs, with fees dependent on traffic count along the highways.
