The Commissioners Court met in regular session Monday for the month of March. One of the outstanding actions of the court in this session was the purchasing of two road maintainers, one to be used in the Alvin precinct, represented by C.W. Massey in the Commissioners Court.
This grader, which goes to the Alvin precinct, will be greatly welcomed due to the fact that this precinct has been in dire need of additional equipment. These graders move by their own power and do effective work.
Bonds of all banks of the county with the exception of the Velasco Bank were approved by the court. The Velasco Bank was not an applicant as a depository. The banks approved include the two Alvin banks, two Angleton banks, West Columbia bank, Damon bank, Brazoria bank, Sweeny bank and the Freeport bank.
The county treasurer’s bond report of the drainage districts of the county was approved. There are nine drainage districts in Brazoria County. Bids were received for the construction of a dipping vat at Peach Point between Freeport and Brazoria.

The matter of a contract for the Lake Jackson city manager is again on the agenda of Monday night’s regular meeting of the City Council. The council is to meet at 6:30 p.m. in an executive session called for personnel discussion, with the open meeting to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the council room of the new City Hall.
Street widths and pavement policies are to be discussed again, also, and there is to be a second reading of an ordinance closing an alley on property of the Lake Jackson Bank adjacent to Highway 332.
Also under old business will be discussions of whether to move ahead on an assessment program to pave Huisache Street, considerations by the city planners to change the zoning code and consideration of subdivision plat approval procedures and checklists.
The width of the unpaved portion of That Way is again on the agenda as is discussion of the Water Task Force which the council at its last meeting asked to continue its work. There also are several items under the heading of new business. A proposal to change the name of Basswood Court in Oak Forest to Thistle Court is to be discussed in an effort to eliminate confusion due to a new street south of Highway 332 being named Basswood.
Two resolutions, one supporting the effort to get Brazos Harbor dredged to a 45-foot depth, and the other favoring construction of a deepwater port in local waters, are on the agenda.
