Brazoria woman hurt in robbery
Published November 21, 2009
BRAZORIA — Police are looking for a man who held a knife to a 63-year-old employee’s neck while robbing a game room Friday afternoon.
The 63-year-old Brazoria woman suffered nicks to her hands and wrists while trying to fend off the robber, who fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money about 12:30 p.m. Friday, Brazoria Police Detective Vicki Ellison said.
Police searched the area around the game room in the 300 block of East San Bernard Street but were unable to find any trace of the robber, Ellison said.
The employee said the man pretended he was at the business to play its games, but threatened her with a knife, holding it to her throat while demanding she give him money, Ellison said. The employee put up a fight and was pushed to the floor. The woman hurt her back and had several scratches to her hands and wrists from the struggle, Ellison said.
The employee was treated and released from the Sweeny Community Hospital emergency room, Ellison said.
A robbery is an uncommon occurrence in Brazoria, but officers acted quickly to search the area, Police Chief Neal Longbotham said.
Authorities are looking for a black man, 23 to 26 years old and 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, Ellison said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 979-798-2195.
