Buy the Books

Fans of Ron Rozelle and Marie Beth Jones can now get more of their favorite Facts columnists’ writing when they visit the paper’s Clute office. The authors’ latest books will now be among the titles The Facts sells.
That includes Jones’s new book, “Trials and Tribulations: Early Texas Crime Stories.”
“I hope people will give it a shot,” Jones said. “I really do think it’s a book people will enjoy, particularly men or women who are interested in early crime. The Facts also handles my ‘Tales From the Brazos’ book, and I think it’s a great place for people to pick them up, because it’s handy to the people in the south end of the county.”
Also, for the first time, The Facts is selling autographed copies of three of Rozelle’s seven published books, including his latest, “Sundays with Ron Rozelle,” a collection of his first 70 columns for The Facts.
“A lot of my stuff is kind of nostalgic and that appeals to a lot of readers, so I think it’s found an audience,” Rozelle said. “And, of course, a lot of people who read the column on Sunday have been interested in it.”
The Facts also will be selling Rozelle’s first-ever book, “Into That Good Night.” This is a paperback edition, with a new introduction.
“It’s been out for a little more than 10 years now, and it’s continued to do well,” Rozelle said. “I started it to be a book about my father and his Alzheimer’s dilemma. And it quickly became a book about my mother and me and the town I grew up in. It’s been a perpetual favorite of mine; of course, it’s the one closest to my heart. But it’s also been a favorite of readers.”
The third Rozelle title offered at The Facts will be his second book, “The Windows of Heaven,” a historical novel about the 1900 Galveston hurricane.
Facts Publisher Bill Cornwell said selling Rozelle’s and Jones’s books at the paper are a natural fit.
“We’re blessed as a newspaper because we have two individuals that not only write for us and contribute to The Facts, but also are accomplished authors on their own,” he said.
Cornwell said the paper offers titles that are informative, and have a Texas flavor.
“We’re not in competition with the bookstores; that’s not our role,” he said. “In the case of Ron, he’s a local author and we’re very proud of him and proud he’s in our paper on a regular basis, as well as Marie Beth Jones. Marie Beth is quite a historian and that fits in with our idea of historical reference and things of that sort.”
Jones’s and Rozelle’s books join a variety of cookbooks, fishing, hunting and outdoor guides, historical titles and books about life in Texas, available in the classified department at The Facts.
