Mavs’ night ends in disappointment
SANTA FE — Luck was on the Santa Fe football team’s side Friday night, and the Indians are in the playoffs for the third time in school history. A three-way tie for the fourth and final playoff spot between Manvel, Santa Fe and Texas City was decided in the weight room at Earl Routh Jr. Field House just before 11 p.m. Friday via coin flip. Odd man out of the three coins earned the postseason berth.

Brazoswood rolls Ball, 36-6.
FREEPORT — A playoff berth already secured, Brazoswood took the field Friday at Hopper Field knowing a win would lock up the Division I top seed in District 24-5A. The Bucs took their prize with authority, blasting Galveston Ball 36-6 in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Sweeny holds on for title
WHARTON — Maybe the playoffs will be easier for the Sweeny Bulldogs.
For the second time in as many weeks, the Bulldogs had a game go down to wire. This time they hung on to beat the Wharton Tigers 21-19 Friday night in the District 26-3A finale for both teams.
